Sergio Calatroni was born in Santa Giuletta, Pavia, Italy in 1951. He lives and works in Milan, Tokyo and Marrakech. He attended the "Accademia di Belle Arti" of Brera in Milan, specializing in set design. Since 1975 he has worked in the field of architecture, industrial design, interior design, graphics, corporate image, creative direction, communications and journalism. He has worked as art director of fashion shows and installations for: Luciano Soprani, Gillette Italia, GFT, Carshoe, Trussardi, Mario Buccellati, Hanae Mori, The Tokyo University, Tivioli, World etc. Graphics and communications for: Fausto Santini, Alfa Romeo, Issey Miyake, Miami Shoji, Marina Spadafora, Shiseido, Arfango, Luciano Soprani, Sealup, De Padova, Jogan, The Tokyo University Museum, Carshoe, Ristorante Fujitaka, La Tartaruga Edizioni, Hankyu Department Store / The National Trust, Stephanemarais, etc. He is one of the founders of the Zeus group, the Zeus Art Galleries in Milan and New York. He also founded the publishing house Afro City Editions Milan, for theoretical research on architecture, design and art. His works have been exhibited in major museums in Italy and abroad. His Black Plastic vase is included in the permanent collection of the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf im Ehrenhof, Germany. Since 1998 his design for the new National Museum of Natural History in Damascus, Syria is under construction. He is presently designing the Prefectural Craft Design Museum of Yamaguchi, Japan. He has designed products for: Pallucco Italia, Zeus, Barovier & Toso, Pozzi & Figli, Vilca, Sisal, Metals, Alessi, Glass Design, Nippon Alumi, Crassevig, Museo Alchimia, Memphis, Gabbianelli. For Shiseido he has designed a line of cosmetics and packaging Untied. In 1997 he received the ADC Award of the Tokyo Art Director Club, and the Award of the Japanese Ministry of Commerce for the Shiseido "Untied" packaging. In 1999 Award Packaging Design Biennal in Japan. From 1996 to 1998 Sergio Calatroni was a visiting professor of Museology at Tokyo University. He has also been a professor of Architecture at the European Design Institute in Milan. From 1998 to 2000 he was the art director of the 13 licency product of The National Trust, Japan. He has conducted many conferences and lectures in Italy and abroad. From 2000 to 2003 he has been the creative director of stephanemarais_ / Shiseido, Paris. In 2003 he received the " Good Design Award", the "Category's Award", of the Japanease Ministry of Commerce and the "2003 London International Advertising Award"(LIAA) for the Stephanemarais_/Shiseido creative direction and packaging. As recent warks of Architecture, in 2003 he has realized the new Embassy of Japan in Damascus, Syria. As works in progress "The Yammine Center" in Beirut, Lebanon, andthe Reserch Center on the Architecture, Tahannout, Marrakech, Morocco. Since 2005, he has been collaborating with Tamura Inc. tocreate contemporary architecture of "Pachinko center" in Japan. As recent works of commercial spaces, in 2005 he has realized Palazzo Villa, San Carlo dal 1973, Turin, Italy. Since 2004, he is designing lamps for DSC.corp Japan. In 2005, he has organized the "Global Souk / A-temporary" exhibition at the University of Tokyo, University Museum, Koishikawa Annexe, and he isorganixing to move that exhibition in some other contries like Italy, Brasil. From 1996 to 2000 he was a member of the steering committee of the design review Interni, published by Elemond, Mlan. He works with many leading magazines of architecture, design, art and fashion, in Italy and abroad. Aïr collection born in 1999 is the product of is continuos personal research into light and materials. In 2003-2004, he has teached at Nuova Academia delle Belle Arti (N.A.B.A), Milan, Italy and from 2004, he is teaching at Academia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan, Italy. From 2006 he was a member of the ADC N.Y., U.S.A. From 2007 he was a member of the International Academy of the Visual Arts, N.Y., U.S.A. In 2008 he has organized the exhibition "100E + Ceramiche x il paradiso" with Gabbialelli. From 2007 Sergio Calatroni is a visiting professor of The University of Tokyo, The University Museum, Dept. Of Museum Technology, Tokyo, Japan. From 2008 he received the " Great Prize of DDA Japanese Display Design Awards".
